Myanmar prominent journalist criticized Myanmar bloggers!

Report by Mayburma.

The political climate of Myanmar has come to turn a corner this month as the military government invites political parties to be active openly inside the country and prepare for the 2010 election. One advisor of 1990 elected party which exists abroad went back to Myanmar after getting visa from the government saying that he went back there to see the cyclone Nargis victims. Exiles accuse him of jumping the fence to the enemy side.

One prominent pro democracy individual named U Win Naing who had been feeding the news to exile group media declared that he is retiring from politics.  He was arrested for a month and was in solitary confinement in jail after actively supporting the monks uprising and was released later. He said that he has given up hope for any genuine democracy in his country where 70% of the people are corrupted. He said democracy can only be formed in a country which has good standards and ethics.

U Kyi Win, the lawyer of Aung San Su Kyi  went to see her to do his duties as instructed by his client. He did not say any political messages to the exiles abroad and one active revolutionist refugee in US, a blogger named "motheezun"  is attacking U Kyi Win's credibility. (  This blogger claimed that he is not a terrorist yet his blog has posts on how to make a bomb out of fertilizer, how Bin Laden had interest to help Myanmar, posts in cyclone time,  recruiting Burmese exiles to follow as translators when US Navy will go there to save cyclone victims, how to differentiate enemy and friend when US soldiers arrive, etc etc all inflammatory words and methods the same as underground communists and Military intelligence used in countries.)

There are many more changing sides and looking for pragmatic way to help their nation and the exiles are broiled up with hatred and bloggers are slandering them in any dirty ways they can.

The latest bombshell for them is the article in " Zaykwet" journal by Mg Su San criticising the unruly , rude and crude nature of Myanmar bloggers. Mg Su San is the most respectable intellectual and the most outspoken against the military government since 1962. The exiles do not believe their eyes to see what he has written. Mg Su San wrote about his visit to China when he read an article about Chinese bloggers acting like cultural revolution days of Mao." They put dance caps on adults and ridiculed them, these kids with red books had given so much trouble to the people. The bloggers are acting like these communist hooligans. Media specialists in US condemned blogs as underworld journalism full of gossips and false reports without clarifying the truth. On the other hand,  internet blogs are of new technology and to be appreciated yet the rootless accusations and acts of some bloggers are ugly. There shall only be intellectual debate, healthy debate without blogger's instinct of jumping conclusion, blindly slandering and putting a dance cap to any one opposing to them.  This is abusing the chance to express, given by the new technology."

It was his response to the bloggers attacking him on internet about his article in Modern Journal where he said that the current military government has become a caretaker government since the constitution was approved. He said " Dialogue" is just a decoration and not an essential part.

The exiles from Canada, US and Thailand feel threatened to loose their job of two decades. Because of internet and satellite phones and mobile phones they were able to do their acts. Because of internet media and intellectuals visiting outside the country , reading news of other countries, people are seeing who are playing Gods with our destiny and who are dancing to the tunes of foreign media and assistants.

Burmese inside and outside of the country are moved by media coverage and Nargis had made them come together to help the victims. Some NGOs outside got donations and were able to send help. Some use this opportunity to oust the military and encouraged by the attention, they got active in Japan, US , Singapore. Some went back from US to give cash to the revolutionary army in the Thai border, a few students army and Karen insurgents instead of helping the cyclone victims. Dr. Aye Myint, a refugee in US went back with cash to meet Malaysia, Japan and Thailand exiles which they put their actions on internet flicker and youtube. The government made a rare press conference to show the reports and the gene sharp foundation, Soros foundation, USIS library teaching and paying activists to instigate riots inside the country. They explained the tactics in detail of using women, comedians, actors, monks to have attention and inflate atrocities of the military.

Nargis had helped the country steer its tract back onto the proper path. The ASEAN and UN are able to help their member. The military leaders see the truth that they somehow have to allow some form of freedom to go forward. The attention of the world leaders about our isolated nation and lack of aid by UN or any world body is highlighted. People of Myanmar were punished by the world for not uprising against the military government.  There is a serious misunderstanding and ignorance on both side of East and the Western culture to impose sanctions and use their dollars in instigating riots instead of helping a poor country struggling to get out of poverty.

It is time the " emotional quotient" as Mg Su San quoted from Thailand newspapers to be disregarded and to start actively participate in the 2010 election. The bloggers without borders should put back their Burmese cap for a while instead of exile yuppie hats they have today. Or they can go back to learn the truth from their ancestors in delta area the cyclone victims themselves . Who is waiting for the government to do anything for them? We are Buddhists and we depend upon ourselves and we create our own Karma. We are still a very basic agricultural nation with every farmer working on their own plot of land.  The military do their duty to keep the country's borders intact and the country to be peaceful;  we do our duty to feed our families. If you love your country , go back and help these farmers but do not give them more trouble. Food first, ideal government later when GDP is high!

While the pen may be mightier than the sword, it is in a similar way a double-edge 'sword'.

Bloggers have to be aware that what is written on blogs are read openly by all, the readers being either intellectual or simple folks... or anywhere in the continuum of the readership spectrum.

Thus, it would be ideal if all bloggers consider the consequences that their posts and comments would lead to. Alas, there are some bloggers who take this 'freedom of speech' as a tool for propaganda, manipulation and creation of schism... instead of for sharing knowledge and experiences.

I hope bloggers remember the basic Golden Rule. Hatred is not resolved by hatred. By peaceful sharing, mutual understanding and respect is a better world built.

Dear Alvin,

Mg Su San is as old as my mother and a very well read and now he has travelled the region to understand and advise the best for the country. Bloggers on the other hand are in experienced kids ranging from teenagers to young adults who are used by some people. Mg Su San has always been an enemy of the military government and now he is pragmatic. He is old and he is giving some good advice and the kids are slandering him from outside.
